Make Burlington more affordable by reducing housing and transportation costs

Burlington is a great place to live, if you can afford it. More than half of residents are cost burdened by their rent and for many who work in Burlington, living outside the city is the only financially viable option. Being forced to live outside the city adds further transportation costs.

Smart growth development builds housing at all price points in the downtown area. The increased supply of housing pushes rent prices down, and the ability to walk, bike, or take public transit instead of driving, lowers transportation costs, making it more affordable to live in Burlington.
